"We want to give our Clients a way to trust in our price, value, and quality; so we put our name behind our work."
                                                                                                     - Dana Cavanaugh, Owner

A Father-Son Business

"My father has been building homes for as long as I can remember.  It wasn't until I started working with him that I truly understood his passion.  Building a home where memories, celebrations and rest will be shared among family and friends makes my work both fulfilling and important."

                         - Mac Cavanaugh

...So What's the Pineapple About?

Throughout history the pineapple has symbolized hospitality and a warm welcome; serving as reminder of level of care with which we treat each Client, and the unique charm we craft for every home.

Once thought of as one of the most highly regarded fruits, the pineapple takes us back to a time where home gatherings were the main form of social events and entertainment; reflective of the significance we place on every design and building detail of the home.

Son of a Navy pilot, Dana spent his early years in Coronado.  The next decade was spent in Washington, DC, Hawaii, Norfolk, VA,  N. Kingston, and Newport, RI.  The family finally came to rest in Boston, MA.  An NROTC scholarship sent Dana to Madison, WI, but accustomed to moving and an opportunity for an Ivy League education, he then moved to Ithaca, NY. He finished college at Cornell University where he took elective courses in architecture, history of architecture, construction engineering, and carpentry.  It was there that he discovered his passion for building.

The 70’s oil crisis and the rugged winters in Ithaca piqued an interest in simple, efficient housing and within a few years Dana was designing and building passive solar homes and additions.  As he gained experience, the homes became larger and much more detailed. Some light commercial projects also came along like restaurants, doctors and dentists offices, night clubs, and apartment buildings.

Between 1982 and 2003 Dana added a part-time endeavor to his construction experience as a Construction Consultant for a community build company- Leathers and Associates.  Started by Bob Leathers in the mid 70’s, Leathers and Associates has designed and helped communities all over the country (and internationally) build thousands of playgrounds and Dana supervised over 200 of them, including the Brevard Zoo in Cocoa Beach, FL, the Ithaca ScienceCenter, the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, A.C. Gilbert’s Discovery Village in Salem. OR, and the Kamalani Bridge in Kauai.

2001 was the year Dana moved back to Coronado and started Cavanaugh Construction.  Using his vast experience and attention to detail, the company was able to quickly cement itself in the community as one of Coronado’s premier custom home builders.
